Transgender Community

Transgender Community - What Is Transgender?

Someone can claim any sexual orientation regardless of being transgender. Homosexuals, bisexuals and heterosexuals can all be considered transgendered people. A transgender person's identity can me male, female, both or neither and doesn't actually have to match their assigned gender with which they were born. For example, the assigned gender identified by other people for them is either male or female. Sometimes it can be difficult to transition to the transgender community, yet no matter which community they identify with, they may need to seek help from transgender groups.

A common situation among transgender individuals is having been born with genitals of one gender and feeling that they are incomplete. They may feel pulled sexually, spiritually, or they simply may feel incomplete, based on the sex they have been born as. To help transgender individuals, most large cities in America have developed a strong community to help transgender people cope.

The transgender community can encompass more than just transgender groups of individuals. Many communities also include non-transgender heterosexual supporters and non-transgender homosexual supporters. These groups and communities have been developed to help transgender people understand and cope with their sexuality. It also allows individuals to meet others like them, hear other transgender stories that are uplifting and show hope, and can even provide an avenue for transgender dating. Many communities have created an online presence that allows for transgender chat, information on transgender surgery, and other online programs.

The transgender community has not necessarily grown in numbers, as transgender teen and adults have existed outside of the mainstream public eye for years; however, self acceptance has grown. Many transgendered teens and adults have had the hardest time realizing and accepting themselves, only to travel a difficult road of acceptance from others. Most large cities will have transgender groups and these groups usually welcome all people interested in learning about the community of transgenders.

It has been noted that heterosexuals have had a hard time accepting those in the community of transgenders, because they feel that they are homosexual. Transgender people are not necessarily homosexuals. Many heterosexuals who are homophobic relate that phobia with transgender individuals. This can be a legitimate phobia in most cases. However, many homophobic people who have attended homosexual groups and/or transgender groups have reported a significant change in the way they perceive their transgender neighbors.

Today's Tip On Gender Identity

How do relationships correspond to a gender role or gender identity?

Though there is a growing acceptance of same sex relationships there is still the prevalent thought that a gender should prefer someone of the opposite sex. Relationships are born from this yearning and need. But in a person with gender dysphoria it does not work the same way. They feel attracted to the same sex or the opposite sex but genuinely believe that they should have been born a different gender. Their relationships begin to revolve around this gender identity crisis.
